Ignition switch query.
« on: July 03, 2021, 14:22:03 »
A question for the team, when you put the key into the ignition switch/ steering lock on a Glee bike, is there a “gate” that moves across to let the key in, and then moves back to keep weather out of the switch when the key is removed. On my Glee there is no sign of one and I am sure there was one on the K9.

I'm pretty sure my glee had one, a spring-loaded guard in the top of the key slot. I can't see how it could escape, maybe it's jammed in the retracted position?

Yes, there's one on my Glee. It's slightly sprung so it closes when you pull the key out. Ian, is the 'spring' broken and it rests open all the time?
So how's it going so far then?

Just been to have a look at mine and it hasn't got one, well, not showing anyway!!  :)
Not sure I remember it having one either.
The whole barrel/lock sits in a hollow so I'm not sure a 'gate' would keep water out, it would just seep in slowly. I presume the barrel has an opening at the bottom for any liquid to run out?

Most ignitions have a cover that's on a spring, if it's not there, it's broken.

Are you sure it's not there??
I've just looked at mine, & at first it wasn't easily visible.
Try & clean it with a rag.

On mine the top cover had become slightly bent downwards, probably due to previous owners missing with the key. I teased the top half moon plate up slightly with a screwdriver and the cover popped back over.

Had a look at mine earlier,I could just see what looked like a shutter but there is a lot of “crud” in the keyhole, when I first bought it,you could hardly turn the ignition key and I was half afraid I was going to twist or break it.I took off the chip sensor and tried to lever up the small plate and saw that the shutter was there and would move a little.Squirted just a touch of penetrating spray around the top and it started to move,I kept trying with no avail, the shutter looks very marked and pitted so I have given up as I didn’t want to damage the switch.I will keep my eyes open for an old S/H switch as it will come to pieces easily to change just the shutter assembly. Thanks for the replies team.
