Lowering links
« on: December 07, 2020, 12:03:38 »
Hi, my 2019 v strom 1000 has been lowered with lust racing links.
What I want to know is when the rear has been lowered does the front forks need to be lowered as well. Some recommend if rear has been lowered by 30mm the front should be lowered by 10mm.
Any one in the know that can give me a definite answer!.

Thanks
Ian

Not lowering the front when you drop the rear that much will alter the steering feel noticeably: a bit vague & floaty. If the front hasn't been done and you've got used to it, then it might feel oddly sharp if you do fix it: mind the inside kerbs...

Hi have now decided to put my bike back to standard hight .
Just ordered a pair of standard lower links , but what I need to know now is the torque setting for the three bolts that hold the bottom links on.
Bike is 2019 v Strom 1000.
Thanks,
Ian

Have a look in the downloads section HERE to get the closest one. They don't change much over the years!  It'll be about 90 n-m ? (At least, the dogbone one I remember?). You are right - best check! lol

Hi ,
I've just been through a similar process with my 650 2013,  See recent posts. I didn't realise it had been lowered but it really didn't turn into bends properly, seemed to run wide. Turns out when I stripped it  last week it had lowering links on it. I've now fitted standard ones
The forks on mine weren't lowered. either , which added to the odd handling.
So I've gone back to standard settings and see how it goes from there . See Gerts post and link
to setting up suspension.

Decided to ask a local Suzuki dealer ( castledine motorcycles in Leicester)
50n/m was the answer, very helpful people.
Ian.
