C42 fault
« on: January 13, 2023, 16:13:31 »
Scratching my head a bit with this one…

Bought my ak7 with no keys (it was a repossession/abandoned), steering lock was on so I drilled it out and used a screwdriver to turn the ignition. I then fitted a new battery and again used the screwdriver to turn on and it started and ran (albeit with an oil leak) I started it on a few different occasions with the screwdriver with no problems at all.
I bought a cheapy lock set from eBay and fitted it today, ignition turns on and it cranks but doesn’t start and putting it in dealer mode I’m getting C42 “ignition switch signal (anti theft)”

Any one got any ideas?

Yes , you've fitted a pattern ignition ..

In an OEM ignition is an anti theft diode which your bike DOESN'T detect.

That’s what I thought, but I also plugged the original back which it had previously started with and had the same fault and code

Can't recall if it is the same with the Suzuki brainbox, but you generally have to clear faults in the modules as well as replace the offending items on other systems.

Just a little update on this one, I ordered a new second hand lockset proper Suzuki one this time. Swapped over the ignition and still got the shame fault. Disconnected the battery and left it over night, next morning connected the battery back up and it fired up but with a C28 fault so it was tank and air box off again. The butterfly on the front tb was pretty stiff so a couple of squirts of lube and all is good again, running with no faults showing.
