OK its been a while (OK a long while) but here goes.
I took my WeeStrom to Assen complete with trailer and found it went really well. " up and loaded up the bike was OK up to 85MPH on motorways on mainland europe )not on UK motorways obviously
) Mileage worked out we, dropping my MPG by around 10MPG compared to my commuting mileage. I have included a picture of the bike towing my Freewheel Pulman trailer that I use on my bikes, no panniers as this was taken for a weekend rally so everything went into the trailer no bother.
Advantages
All the weight is in the trailer so does not effect the bikes suspension anywhere near as much as it would with all the gear on the bike.
It means you can take a few (OK more than a few) bits that would not fit onto the bike with ease. 4/5 man tunnel tent, double height double air bed, Duvet with bottom sheet and real pillows, 2 ring cooker with decent sized gas bottle, spare small tent for those one night stops. More clothes than you would normally take including clothes for the wife that make things more interesting (I won't describe but will leave it to your imagination) given the size of the tent
The trailer Iuse is I think 40 cu ft, not 40 Litres worth of luggage
More ground clearance for corners as most of the weight isn't on the bikes suspension
Disadvantages
Having to take the trailer into account when filtering.
Lower MPG
Small effect on braking and acceleration.
Lower speed limits to be taken into account/ignored, your choice
Not being allowed in the outside lane of motorways (again your choice if you want to ignore this rule)
No excuse when the wife says `can you manage to fit this suspender belt mini skirt thong and basque in?' You just know the room is there.
that's all really
