Help!!! I'm hearing strange noises!
« on: February 09, 2010, 20:17:45 »
Hello to all who may look,

I've got a Wee Strom 06 plate, just over 11000 miles on the clock.
Recently noticed a knocking sound from (I think) the engine.
Starts at around 2500-3000 rpm when accelerating in all gears (at least till I can't hear it, because of the wind rush through my caberg trip lid). And it gets quicker thro speed
Please, has anyone got any ideas as it's my first bike and I'm not in the least bit mechanical.
It is due a service soon but I would like to have some guideance as to the possible problem.
There is no vibration through the pegs or bars, and steering is not affected either.
Has anyone else had the same probs? if so what's the remedy and how much is it likely to cost me?

All responses greatfully received, (I'm still such a novice).

Many Thanks blokes n gals

Is it an internal or external knock?

Is your Chain loose?

hard to tell if internal or external, but I'm guessing internal as it sounds a bit muffled.
Def not the chain as I tightened that at the weekend.

I'd get it to a trusted dealer ASAP. Could be nothing serious if caught early enough, hopefully. Good luck   :thumb:

not after tightening the chain this time, but may have been after the last time I tightened it.
trouble is, I use it daily to commute. so would be stuck if it needed to go in for a while (yes in all weathers inc snow yesterday!).
My local Suzuki dealer is a bit of a cowboy and only interested in selling bikes and has a bit of a bad reputation. will look for somewhere else me thinks. It doesn't affect the performance of the bike, just v. annoying.
need to get it sorted before the summer, especially may bank holiday.
Thanks blokes.

I'd check the front sprocket hasn't started rounding off and causing the chain to slip a little which does make a knocking noise in that sort of rev range, also using daily in all this crap weather we are having tends to tighten the chain links so may be worth just rotating the chain slowly by hand and making sure all the links are moving OK and none of them have siezed up,I only suggest this as it sounds like what happened to my bike at about that mileage,I replaced the c&s once I was sure that was the problem and no more knocking.hope this helps
