What should I ask? Advice...
« on: March 14, 2010, 10:01:51 »
Morning all

Just been given an option on an 06 DL650.  It's for sale by a former student of my instructor and he's selling because his gf is pregnant.  It has 15K miles and is complete with heated grips, Suzuki back box, Givi side cases, centre stand and hand guards.

It was recently in a light shunt and has a scratched left fairing, mirror and handguard.  It's in blue or should I say bleurgh (sorry StromGeeza).  Just had a £400 service (what would that be at 15K?).

He's looking for £2.5K quick sale.

I am inclined to get it HPI'd but am very tempted.  Any thoughts?  What searching questions should I ask?

I bought mine last september , k5 (05) DL650 , 9000 miles with some service history , 2.5k I paid , I have to say I'm very pleased especially now I have the vario screen (WOW !!!! wot a difference )
yeah 2.5k for an 06 sounds reasonable ,if its had a regular service 15ks not bad ,  check out the parkers guide , and most important HPI ,

good luck m8  :thumb:  :thumb:  :thumb:

£400 for a service? Did that include new tyres or something? Sounds over the odds to me even for the big service with the valve clearances included (15k on the DL1000, not sure about the wee). Has it had a problem or maybe it icluded fixing damage?

sounds like its been re shiimed  ..which is good  ..the 650  is a fair bit harder than the thou  as the cam chaintensioners have to be   realeased
the 1k is easyer cos the cams are  gear driven at the top and lift straight out

the rear tensioner  on the 650   is  a class one  bitch   ...its around  a five hour  job with a full service     ..50 odd quid an hour  plus vat  plus  parts    oil  ect ect   ###
once its done   that's  should be it    very rare theyll need dong again  ...checking  is simple  ..so the worst  bill is out of the way   :thumb:

If you are worried about the vehicle history start with one of these...

It stopped my mate buying a dodgy Thundercat and it's only a few quid.
