fork oil capacity
« on: August 21, 2020, 18:39:01 »
does anybody know the correct quantity of fork oil for each leg?
or is it a air gap measurement from the top of fork leg to oil level.
Suzuki DL650. 2016.

530ml oil per leg - which should give a gap of 139ml.  :thumb:

I was told by the shop I was buying my fork oil from that they would just use 500ml as the oil comes in 1ltr bottles. (I bought 2 bottles and set it as per the book).

Also remember fork oil is not standardised so 10w of one brand doesn't equal 10w of another brand.

excellent.  Thanks for the info. will put 530cc in each leg and measure the gap with fork compressed.

Good luck.
The gap is the fork extended. If you compress it, the spring will stick out above the top...  :)

(That air gap was supposed to be 139mm not ml)

Measure the air gap with fork compressed fully and spring and any trapped air out.

I used 10w fully synthetic oil in mind and it feels good (to me).

Also if anyone is thinking of changing oil or seals etc don't try to losen the fork caps with the top yoke bolts still nipped up as this puts pressure on the cap threads.....they will be alot easier to remove if you loosen the top yoke bolts first. (Not that I've tried to do it of course).

 :text-goodpost: what silverback said
(Ignore my blonde moment with extended forks - I was thinking of when I was adding the springs afterwards and they stick out quite a bit)

Don't forget to pump the fork legs a few times to remove any trapped air before measuring the level.
