Custom build Scrambler? V-strom concept
« on: June 26, 2020, 15:24:27 »
Hello all,

I have come across this 'thing' on eBay... I don't think I would ever do this to my own bike but it is most definitely an interesting concept and I thought, I share  :shy:

It appeals to me. I wonder if the fuel tank from a SV650 would look better on it? The usual motivation for these comes from it being a cheaper alternative to buying new bodywork after a crash. Providing the frame and forks are still OK it makes for an interesting stripped down roadster.

I love that, thanks for sharing. :)

You are right! It seems a sensible solution for those bikes which are not cost effective to repair! At least they extend their life on the road! 😉

I guess the owner wanted to recreate a DR Dakar scheme  :)

That "thing" is my Thinstrom! I've just added a post in the For Sale section of this forum. Yes, it was a Cat C write-off in 2015 under a previous owner. I bought it two and a half years ago, looking much as you see it, but I had to do quite a lot of work to make it more presentable and roadworthy. Like attaching the seat with a Suzuki seat catch instead of a luggage strap, and fitting a correct front wheel. I've used it over two summers, but I'm getting too old for a bike that tempts "spirited" riding. Any questions, please ask!

I thought that had been on here before. The subframe is a whole lot better than when you got it.

Ah yes, the K6 with L1 tank and other glee parts. Didn't it also have a vee front wheel on it too, plus a bodged rear brake pedal? Given its history posted on this forum alone, I wouldn't want it. When I get to building one of my own I'll start from a known good bike.

Yamaha had the same idea and make them. Good fun according to the reviews.
