Black and silver rear number plate
« on: June 11, 2020, 11:46:20 »
Looking at a 1992 125cc for my Son, however it's got one of these plates on it.
From what I have read it's illegal?
Can any MOT testers please confirm this for me.
Thanky muchy  :thumb:

Black and white plates finished in 1973.

While changing the plate is not expensive ... IMHO it may indicate the bike has been subject to an "unknowing" previous owner who may have done "other things" . May be a good bike but I would be looking very carefully at its service history.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

A black and silver plate on a 1992 bike is an MOT failure...

Black and silver plates are only permitted on vehicles that have an ‘historic’ classification and are 40 years old. It is now a ‘rolling’ thing

The same applies in France. I can put a black/white plate on my '87 Kawasaki, the 'Véhicule de Collection' category starts at 30 years old here but it has to be registered on the Carte Grise (your V5) as such. For that it has to be accepted by the Féderation Française de Véhicules d'Epoque.

Curiously it allows me to ride in pollution controlled city and town centres without having to pay or have an appropriate badge.  :smirk:
So how's it going so far then?
