Miss fire
« on: June 08, 2020, 15:33:09 »
Afternoon blokes I did post a few months back regarding a miss fir I had unfortunately I still havnt found the issue I have replaced the throttle position sensor I've been through all the relays and fuses I've had the engine out and stripped I've balanced the throttle bodies all the things people advised me to do and yet I have still have the problem basically it starts runs absolutely perfect If I go out and do 50 miles it's fine but if I do any more than that everytime I come to a stop it starts popping and backfiring and trying to cut out if I slowly twist the throttle it's OK of I sit still and keep the revs at about 2k it's OK but if I leave it to tik over at about 1100rpm it starts cutting out please any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am losing the will now

Sounds like a fuelling issue, have you checked the pump ?

In your previous thread, https://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=37673.0, you wrote that you have a motor swap ie K6 motor to replace your K3 ? Your profile shows that your ride is a K2 Vee. Kindly clarify. Perhaps you can amend your profile to include the new motor? Back to trying to help you, have you thought of replacing the TPS? This part has been known to fail once hot. From the link above, I'm not sure which parts were carried across from the old motor to the new motor, eg did the throttle bodies come with the new engine? If that is the case, then try the TPS from the old motor throttle bodies. The part numbers should be the same. If not then you will need a replacement TPS.

Yes sorry it does have the 06 engine everything came with the new engine I've done around 25k on the newer engine and not had a problem, I have replaced the tps along with everything else although if it is a known fault then maybe the tps was a faulty one to start (that would be just my luck) I have a mate who has the same engine I'll try this tps on his and see if it works

Is it a coil breaking down?
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

How do you know the pump is working correctly ? Have you done tests ?
The correct flow should be 1200ml in 30secs and sometimes pumps can fail when they get warm.

As alreadyeady mentioned , another part that fails when warm is the coils .

Hi john04.

Try asking your question in a separate thread as it can get confusing.

Hi DLMatt58, if you decide to go the pump route suggested by Kwackboy (he is a proper mechanic btw), then have a look at this link

Hi, I recently bought a second hand K7 and had same sort of issues, call it miss fire, cough what ever, but after looking at many threads from many places thought it could be fueling as it only did it when warm and running low revs, so decided to bite the bullet and buy a Dynojet PCFC which came loaded with appropriate maps for Vee's from 2002 - 10 the K7 was setting No 2 which leaves loads of spare setting positions to load free maps from Dynojet onto the PCFC and at a twist of a pot can change it instantly, you can also tweek different other settings in the map range to experiment yourself but I have just set mine onto No2 and the missfire has gone, money well spent, did not need the V5 one the PCFC was adequate.
