Oil Leak. DL650 2013
« on: May 13, 2020, 19:41:43 »
Alreet Lads. Could do with any input about an engine oil leak on a DL650 2013.

The engine is mainly moist on the right hand side. The wettest component is the nut that is on the end of the main mounting shaft/bolt at the front of the engine. The one that hangs from the V part of the frame. The V part of the frame above this is dry. Can't see or feel oil above the engine mounting bolt.

Thanks

Hello,

Read the link below , its a problem that's been discussed before.
https://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=36129.0

The origin of the oil is most likely where the case halves come together. The oil leaks into the space drilled to pass the large bolt and migrates to the end. A proper fix would be to separate the case halves and redo the bond. The area would be difficult to access from the outside. Putting sealant where the leak appears will only have the oil come out at the end of the bolt. A porous casting is possible but less likely.

Hello Kwackboy,

Thanks for taking the time and trouble to do my homework for me.

Your answer...….That's what I was thinking (gutted) but I just needed confirmation.

Much appreciated.
