I'd pick cast over spokes, even for off roading.

I have a '17 xt with spokes. Normally I'd go for cast.
Having said that, these ones are unblemished so far. But then I rarely go out on salted roads, partially acf the bike every winter, don't commute, and do a fairly limited mileage. The spokes came with the bike 2nd hand. I quite like cleaning my bike and I like the look of the spokes
Having said that, I've had plenty of spoked wheeled bikes over the years, and each one has had (eventually) a problem or two with spokes (sometimes from being abused! Overloaded, hitting massive potholes abroad etc), wheels needing rebuilding.
All things being equal I'd go cast. They take a lot of beating!

Oh! And the new beaks look good imho

Who says the caste system is a bad thing?! Works well with wheels.

This chap couldn't decide which wheels  either so he used both.

If you are just road riding, go cast as they are lighter and easier to clean... but the spokes look so good ;-)
In my defence, she did leave me unsupervised.

Cast easier to live with, spokes look better IMHO (on the Vstrom anyway). To be honest had a fair number of both and I have never had a problem with either. My 1978 400 dream has the original comstars (alloy rim, steel spoke)….now that's a wheel that can cause problems (later ones were all alloy so OK)!

CAST! Definitely cast wheels over spoked, have you ever tried to keep those fucker clean? Christ it drove me mad, so after about 5 months of my XT I sold my wheels on and bought a set of 10 spoked allys off a 2017 strom from a breakers yard. Best decision I ever made

I've got spiked wheels on my 650xt & am happy with them.As far as I know they are a stronger unit than caste.Reading others comments who say the opposite.

Cast wheels can take more punishment than spoked?I always thought the opposite was true.
