Leaking oil sight glasss
« on: March 17, 2020, 23:04:02 »
Hello everyone. I've just recently joined your forum.
Hoping to get some advice.
My 2002, DL1000 oil sight glass seems to be leaking oil.
Best action....is it an engine casing off and try to remove and reseal. 3 day delivery wait for a new glass. Are they difficult to reseal. Type of gasket on casing to?
If anyone has had similar problem and solution?
Regards Paulnorth

Not sure whether it is a seal or a pressed fit. Closest example that I can find is item #2 in https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/Suzuki/motorcycle/2002/v-strom-DL1000/crankcase-cover, then selecting the item in the part numbers https://www.partzilla.com/product/Suzuki/11971-33210?ref=04263b0a684af9b945b43b50c34ca1656150bec1 which it appears to have it's own seal. I could be wrong in this assumption.
Have you approached any Suzuki workshop for some advice?

Have you tried using a socket of the right size to give it a gentle tap into the casing?  It may help.

Thanks for the replies. Good news I found out not the oil sight glass. Changed oil and filter.
Leaking from a threaded hole, below the coolant bleed bolt. 90 degrees to the casing machine screws? I will try and load pic.

The oil is leaking from hole that blue wire is placed. It's not a blind threaded hole. Not sure if blot or grub screw has vibrates loose. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Have you seen the Downloads section for a manual.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

Just looked again....its a hole below the no.9 bolt. Doesn't seem to be threaded but oil dripping out when engine is running. Any ideas to why or what fits into hole. If any?

Looks as if it could be the water pump “tell-tale” hole.It weeps water or oil if either side is leaking. It stops the water contaminating the oil and Vice-versa.The 650 has a different arrangement doing the same thing.
