2019 Vstrom 1000 FI indication
« on: March 16, 2020, 00:27:24 »
Hi blokes,
My mate has a 2019 vstrom 1000 and is getting a  FI warning, it appears he has C21 and C42 coming up as faults although bike runs fine, he's done some work on (fitted alarm - believes this has given C42 fault) and had the tank off (possible C21 fault).

Is there a way to use a shorting link to clear these faults? I used to be able to do it on my 2007 wee strom thanks advice given on here.

thanks Bob D

Who did the installation? If it was a DIY job, then by all means try to find a solution to the fault codes. However, if the installation was done by a company and no-one tampered with the bike since the installation, then take the bike back to that company, to address the fault codes complaint.
Personally, I suspect that there may be a connector not reconnected or maybe the alarm wiring tapped into the wrong feeds. The shop there the work was done, would be able to advise.

C21 Intake Air Temp. ... C42 Ignition Switch Signal (Anti-Theft). Might be quicker to get a dealer to clear it.
In my defence, she did leave me unsupervised.

For C21, make sure the air intake sensor has been plugged back into the airbox.

The best thing to do is remove the alarm he's just put in, repair the wiring and throw the alarm in the bin.

He's cut a wire to the ignition and not reconnected it through the alarm (maybe connector not secure) and the same with the 'intake' sensor.

The intake sensor is easy to forget to plug back in, mainly as it falls down the side of the cylinders or ends up under the airbox all too easily.

Hi blokes
He fitted the alarm himself and has now taken it out reconnected everything and C42 fault still present!!! And yep hes an electrician. He's also checked wiring and cannot find a fault.

Hi Bob D
I had that fault on my 2019 DL1000 showing an F1 fault. My case was due to faulty fuel. The bike went perfectly and I also had it come on my 2017 V-Strom also. It is caused by what is known in the fuel industry as "Stretching". It is when a volume of Kerosene is added to petrol to enhance their profits.kerosene is much cheaper to buy wholesale. The injection system is very sensitive and the least fault with petrol will show an F1 light. It may also be caused by water in the fuel also. When you fill up again with proper petrol the fault should disappear. That was my experience and your problem may be of some other fault.

If the bike still starts up and runs, then the C42 is a latched warning, meaning the dealer should be able to clear it. You could try googling for how to clear the warnings, you might get lucky.
