2012 650 loss of MPG?
« on: February 11, 2020, 16:59:55 »
So over December, my bike was parked up as I had a knee operation. Started riding again in mid Jan. Since then, my average MPG has gone from about 68-70 ish too 60MPG.
My ride hasn't changed. I still do about 30 \ 45 minutes either way, daily, to work.
Tyre pressures checked
I use a scottoiler, so that's not the issue (for the first week, I had it wide open to make sure it was properly lubed)
I've tried putting super unleaded (from Esso) through it to help clear everything up.

Anything else to try?
I hate not having somewhere dry to store the bike ಠ_ಠ

Brakes binding?
I'd not thought of that. My front break does feel sticky when pulled sometimes, but it's been doing that for a while and I was going to ask them to service the master cylinder at the next service (very soon) as it feels like it's at the top.

Your display didn't switch over to US Mpg by any chance?

It might be worth lubing the pivot point of the front brake lever to see if that helps.
I'd also suggest the brakes could be binding slightly (fairly easy to give the pistons a quick clean).
It could also be environmental too such as temperature/wind etc. On Monday mine struggled to get to 60mpg though it was a tad windy on the M62...

The cold air will always knock a couple of MPG off....during the winter my bike does about 15-20 miles less per tank than in the summer months.
