New Spots
« on: August 07, 2019, 11:51:09 »
Hello
I have just bought some spots for the bike. These spots are LED U11, and so apparently have low and high beam functions.
But it also means that the wiring is a little different
Each light has 4 wires
Blue - labelled High Beam
White - Low Beam
Green - Ground
Brown - labelled AE DE

so I take it I wire it like this
Green straight to ground (obviously),
Blue direct to the bikes high beam fuse,
White direct to the bikes to the low beam fuse
and then brown to the switch (but which port - or + ) [it must be the - surely?] and then there's the switch itself can I just hook that up to a power outlet from the BigPie I have discovered is fitted. the switch only has 2 wires.

Am I over thinking this?

The brown from both should be a switched live.
Do these spots come with their own switch ..? Or a relay ?

If no clear diagram and description is supplied then you are guessing/experimenting as to what wire is what. Not sure if they will have protection built in from being connected the possible myriad of wrong ways round you can get with four wires. If not something might blow or overheat.

Have the suppliers specified their actual power consumption? Might be 15 watts or more each.

Safe way would be with a spare 12V battery separate from your bike and its wiring and experiment as to exactly what each wire does. Note some of these lights also have a strobe facility.

There's is most likely only one LED in each unit. Surely all it can do is be on bright, on not so bright or be off. Doubt it has "high beam and low beam" with physical differences in height like a two filament bike headlight has.

125w seems a lot for led lamps.

experimenting with a 12v battery sounds like a good idea.
I’ll see if I can get me hands on one, or just take out the one I have on the bike now and see what happens.
I’ll either catch fire or go blind from the intense light

Some of these types of lights have the 'Angel Eye' lights round the outside (like BMW's).
I see one of your wires is labelled 'AE', so could this be a second set of wires for the halo lights?
