Centre stand DL1000 /XT1000 2018
« on: August 05, 2019, 18:24:16 »
I have recently bought , fitted and just removed a constands centre stand. I was about to order one from sw- motech and their stand appears identical - thoughts are am I going to have a similar issue. Has anyone fitted a constands product and had issues with the bike not sitting properly. The issue mainly relates to the left bracket hitting the underside of the frame and wearing a groove or pocket and the right side of the stand not contacting fully when down.

I had a constands main stand on my TDM.

Whilst it looked sturdy enough, it didn't seem to  hold the bike completely level, so I never 100% trusted it...

Fitted an SW-Motech centre stand to my BMW 650 Dakar. The fit was OK but felt flimsey.
I have the OEM stand on my 2017 DL1000 and it's solid. Had it as part of the accessories package they were doing when I bought the bike.

Why not grind away the section that is binding? From your 2nd pix, it only needs about 2-5mm for enough clearance. I wouldn't go any more than that for fear of weakening the construction. Mark with a sharp object to ensure the correct area is being reduced. Since you already have the stand it won't cost you anything but time, labour and duco / spray paint to protect the metal. If you don't have a grinder, perhaps someone near you can help?

I have actually reached the conclusion that the stand is not actually for the bike and have therefore placed a complaint with the supplier. I have decided to go the oem route and have one from Suzuki. I think if I'd have started to make it fit!, I might never have been 100% happy with the fact that it did not fit the bike as promised and trusting the stand to keep the bike upright is paramount.

I also bought a Constands centre stand and encountered the same issues,  however I went down the make it fit route.

The bike doesn't sit perfectly but it's okay,  if it wasn't for the fact it cost almost a third of the OEM one I'd have sent it back.
