2004 DL1000 for Free!
« on: May 23, 2019, 17:43:21 »
As I am giving away this 2004 Suzuki V-Strom DL1000 you can probably guess that the condition is not great :). In fact, it is in very poor condition. I took it to a Suzuki dealer and they told me that it is not worth repairing, they said scrap it.

Pictures of the bike can be viewed here:

https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B0y5oqs3qXHAhP

It is currently at my house in Hove beside Brighton on the south coast of England.

I think that someone with an interest in this motorcycle might very well be able to bring it back to life and fix it up.

So, here is the history of this bike.

This motorcycle belonged to my brother who died in his sleep in April 2012. He lived in Spain, not far from Malaga, but he had moved to Spain from Northern Ireland. He had bought this bike in Northern Ireland and taken it with him to Spain. So soon after his death I had the bike brought back from Spain to Hove in England where I live and it has sat outside in my back garden for seven years.

I’ve been told by my brother’s friends that the bike was working up until his death. They remember seeing him riding it just days before his death.

The bike had a Northern Irish registration but I had that changed to an age related English registration in 2013 when I was getting myself to be the registered keeper of the bike.

I do have the V5C for this motorcycle and the date of first registration is 01/01/2004. I would guess that my brother bought it second-hand in Northern Ireland. I don’t know how many owners have had this bike.

This V-Strom does not have an ignition key. I don’t know if it has an electronic immobiliser. I do know that it isn’t a stolen bike because when I was getting myself registered as the keeper the DVLA would have told me, I believe they do searches.

I was a motorcyclist myself back in the 80s and back in those days I did all my own maintenance and I was good with that kind of thing however today I haven’t the commitment to get this bike back on the road.

It would be great if someone could revive this bike. However if it is not possible to revive it then maybe it would be useful for spare parts?

If you want this motorcycle the most important thing is that you are equipped to take it away. Both tyres are totally flat and won’t hold any air so it is slow and difficult to push. To put it on a trailer you will need two people.

If you want this bike email me. There is a small icon on the left for sending an email. Please use that. The first email from someone who is clearly equipped to take the bike away, with a trailer or big enough van, will get the bike.

A kind offer (even if it is a bit of a wreck) and thanks for making it.

Sorry to hear of the circumstances around this too.

I have received one reply by email. I'm now discussing the arrangements for it to be picked up by email.

There is no need now for any more enquiries. If anything goes wrong with this I will be back to let you know.

To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

If you have a good wide and long ramp then you and I will probably be able to put it into the back of your van. However if there is third person then it will be easier. If the ramp is steep or narrow it will definitely require a third person.

Something I'd like to mention to Fat Rat is that I do have a 2005 Yamaha Bulldog BT1100 as well. This is in pieces. If you want that as well you can have it, but there is a difficulty in that the engine and frame are all one unit with no wheels. It is very heavy. So if you can get another person then maybe we can lift the Bulldog. I do have the wheels and other parts in a box. They aren't a problem. If you aren't interested in the Bulldog then, of course, that is fine. I will just get rid of it some other way.

I do have the V5C for the Bulldog in my name, I am the "registered keeper". The story with the Bulldog is exactly the same, it was bought by my brother in Northern Ireland and taken to Spain. I brought it back to England from there. I guess the Bulldog was going to be a project whereas he was using the V-Strom for transport. He liked big V twins  :)

There is an active Facebook group for BT 1100. Someone on there might pay good money for it.
