LEAKING FUEL
« on: May 02, 2019, 18:53:44 »
Started the bike today and it is leaking fuel from under the tank, I quick search and it seems to be a common issue with the small pipe between the two bodies.

can anyone tell me the diameter of the fuel pipe and what clips to by as I see jubilee clips are not good under pressure.

Is this on your DL ? Have you actually lifted the tank to take a look ?

I havent lifted the tank yet but wanted to make sure I had the bits when I do, I know there is a chance it may be something else, getting to the bike is not to easy as it is squeezed in the garage next to my old Dolomite.

Which DL do you have ? Is the leak coming from any particular location .? Rear , middle , side of the tank ?

I have a 57 plate DL1000, it seems to be under the tank central running down off the brackets if that makes sense.

Personally I've never heard of the pipe leaking between the two bodies but unusual problems can happen.
Looks like a visual inspection is needed. If the leak happens when the bike is running you would have to reconnect the tank with the airbox removed and run it up to get a better idea .

Aye - that's got good pics! :thumb: here's another one link, but bear in mind some of these links describe issues with the 650, I don't know if the hoses are different sizes on the 1000, but a look at an online parts catalogue would tell you.
Also, its still possible its not the issue!

Its pretty common on 1K Sv's I've replaced mine with similar symptoms.
If it has two wheels.. I'll ride it.

it was indeed the small pipe that was leaking, new pipe and clips and all appears OK..

That's good news, pete :thumb:  what diameter was the pipe btw? Sorry, I always think in terms of some future strommer searching for facts!

Quote removed

8MM fuel hose.

hardest part was getting the airbox off as the front clip was stuck solid

Great work, these mechanical fixes, a pain enough to sort let alone post on the forum, are a great asset.

quick update, took it to work today and after a minute or 2 of riding the FI light comes on, have I left anything off, I am pretty sure I put all on the airbox.

Just filled it up as well but was on before I got to the station so tank will be nice and heavy.

place in dealer mode and run to get a FI code display (https://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3907.msg30518#msg30518 and https://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=24370.msg238706#msg238706). Best to recheck where you last worked, again. Connectors and hoses to their correct places, or maybe just be a connector not making contact...

well it appears to be fixed, did the dealer mode trick and C28, removed tank and airbox and it was one of two things

Circlip on the airbox was twisted and very close to the linkage, possibly rubbing, one cable not routed correctly and rubbing linkage, either way it seems OK now, thanks for everyones help
