V-Strom 1000 2015 vs 2018 which one to buy?

I am really keen to get a new V-Strom but not sure if the 2017 model worth the extra money. Both similary equipped. (Panniers ,crash bars , heated grips etc...)
The 2015 model has a minor cosmetic damage on the exhaust.

I assume I will have to upgrade the screen on the 2015 model but apart from that is there a huge difference between the two model?

I know the 17 model has upgraded ABS system but not sure if that’s worth the difference.

Looking forward to hear your advice / experiences with these models!

Thanks Wurzel, what is your avarage fuel consumption on the 14 model is it really close to 45mpg or it can kept over 50-55mpg ?

On a long run, not blasting about, 50 odd mpg is achievable, I'm a fairly fast rider, so would say 45mpg is more like it.

At £7000 The 18 plate is only 17% more, it may need new tyres if it's still on the originals.  For the first few years it will always have a higher residual value.

The 15 plate has a few less miles on it but you need to check if it has had ALL of the time related services. It is almost four years old so brake fluids air filter oil changes and filter etc need to be considered. A cosmetic problem with the exhaust will also affect resale value and will probably cost more than the difference between the 15 and 18 plate bikes.

Neither for me, I'd go for the 17 plate with 5000 miles that Paz has for sale at £6500

I believe he is talking about mine for 7000-7200, I'm not mobile enough to deal with the sale of my bike right now so I'm handing it over to my Suzuki dealer to sell on my behalf, I believe they will increase the price because they are likely to service and fit new tyres before its sold.

On the plus side the extras with mine will now include my Garmin 395 as I've decided to just sell up for the next 18 months and decide if my health will allow me to ride again before I lose my no claims bonus.

So instead of holding on to accessories I may never use again I'd rather just buy new ones further down the line.

Once my local Suzuki dealer has my bike up on their website I'll be sure to update my for sale post with a link and the dealers information.

Another nice bike 
One worry is if you look at the 3rd photo, the engine bar on the left appears bent in as the lamps are closer to the forks on that side?
(PS blue and white striping is illegal if the blue is reflective - I know this from being a Blood Biker in the past)

Good spotting on the bars! I would have remove all the decals as I am not big fun of them... also good to know it's illegal!

Funds are always difficult, but it would be a shame to loose a newer, well cared for bike for a few hundred quid...
Also with the amount of extra's it is coming with, you may be able to make some money back on those you find that you don't need?

As far as I understand the ABS on the 2017+ models is a "cornering ABS", I.e. it has extra sensors to detect the lean angle of the bike and it feeds this data to the computer when ABS has been triggered, so in theory this will give you some extra assurance when doing trail breaking (braking while cornering).

Yeap I am sure it something which is good to have even if you are not using it every day. It is a good piece of mind to have a safety net if I would mess up something super badly :D
I had a "simple" ABS system on the 2012 650 and I was really happy with it even so its only activated twice in a year but in those times it has saved me and the bike from crashing.

I have seen you are in a hunt for a 1000 beauty as well AKxx. Are you looking for a 2017 model?
