Think I might be first with Heed Bars for 2014 Veek ?
« on: March 09, 2017, 19:37:18 »
I see when I did a search that quite a few of our 650 cousins installed Heed crash bars on their Glees and rated them.  Did not see any reference to our model so I guess I may be the first.

I looked around and was going to go for the Givi but saw the Heed on flea bay at a reasonable price. With the 650 endorsements (and other Bikes on the net which had installed Heed bars and spoke favourably) I did the evil deed and ordered a set. I e mailed them first in Poland and same price as e bay, so that was that.  Arrived without drama about 5 days later.

They are very well made, nicely powder coated, and very sturdy as you would expect.  Everything aligned up spot on and all nuts and bolts in order.  Only minor criticism is the instructions were pretty poor compared to others fitted in past, but again, no real issue.

They will certainly protect it in event of a minor drop, but look good as well.

On e bay they were doing a deal where by you could buy the little saddle bags to fill the gaps (like the Givi)  I did this one, in hindsight wonder what I will put in them.

All in all, pretty good and worth it.  Yep, recommend if you are looking for engines body crash bars

Have you the Heed bags for the 1000 or the 650 ?  I ask as mine seem the same size as pencils cases that kids have !  I was thinking more about ear plugs, spare batteries and things like that.

I have really light weight waterproofs jacket and trousers and cannot see how I could get them in these saddle bags, even though they fold up real small.  I will try tomorrow mind :smirk:

Sorry, SW Motech bars on a 650! Not that big but get a one-piece suit in there with a bit of pushing & shoving. Will wait and see how long it takes for the zip to break under the pressure!!!  :smirk:

These are the ones I've got.........

Just looked on the site above and seen those for the 1000 Heed bars, difficult to say with pictures but they could be a bit smaller!!

Yep, they look like panniers almost compared to mine.  :)

Perhaps twice the size ?  that's why I will end up with tooth paste and similar !

I have GIVI bars on my '14 DL1000. Dropped bike twice, stationary, and both times bars have bent the bracket they share with the radiator. I thought, stationary drop and such a damage...
Then I looked at other bars and found out that Heed bars have one more cross bar that goes just bellow the beak and that was exactly what I wanted. I was ready to order and then I made decision to purchase 2017 model next September.
Now, I'm not sure if they'd fit 2017 model as the beak is little different. Maybe you could help me here. How much space between the beak and the crossbar that goes just bellow it? I emailed Heed about compatibility with 2017 model and the said they didn't know. Surely do, they had no chance to see new model.
As for the rest, all fittings should be the same between '14 and '17 models. Just the beak is still the question as it is "fatter" on '17 then on '14.
So, if there was enough room bellow the beak, I mean, if you could check if there was still enough space between the bottom of the beak and the top crossbar, maybe there is enough room for '17 model's beak.
My plan is to order Heed bars before the bike and take them to my dealer so they can install them before I go to pick new bike.

Thanks

Do not think they will fit the new one as space below beak is limited, if of course beak in same position on new bike.

Here are the images for reference !
Sorry re images right way up on computer then seem to rotate when linked to thread

Thanks a lot for that !!!
I see you have the space measured and it has a room of 1cm. Is it at the closest point between Heed bars and beak? On other areas, is there more room?
Thanks again, I can now study new bike when first bikes arrive into the showrooms.

Yes. That is closest point, to be honest you would need them side by side.

I would try and do a 'deal' with Heed and offer to send them load images with their bars attached to new model, if they fit. On understanding you can return them and no charge if they do not.

What are you talking about?
You have Heed bars and you can't remove your tank without removing the bars?
Or, you are just guessing...

Resurrecting this thread, wondering if there are any people with issues with the length of the engine bolt. Mine is 1-2 mm too short and doesn't reach the end of the nut. I had to remove a washer in order to have it screw all the way "in". I've got a 2018 DL1000XT bike.

Heed do a version that's specific to the 2017+ models are you sure you received the correct one ?

I was tempted to buy these bars myself but after doing some research all the pictures I can find look like the bars will prevent removal of the plastics surrounding the fuel tank, which means the bars would need to be removed just to get the fuel tank off..

Any chance you could confirm if that's the case ?
