thinking of getting a 14 plate DL1000. does the top box plate need moving back like the old ones?

I guess that would depend on the rider and pillion size plus top box make and support.
I have Givi on mine there's plenty of room for a 90 kg rider and a 80kg pillion.

Thanks for the reply, on the k8 I had to move it back as the Suzuki box would catch on the seat

Can't say about the Suzuki box it was way to expensive for me. I just got the Givi mount with an m5 plastic plate for the cheaper monolock box. 47 ltre for weekends (two helmets, just) and a wee 26 ltre one for normal use.
Though after trying a Yamaha tracer gt my wife says she would like a top box with a curved back section like the tracer had as it was more comfortable, more money!

I wouldn’t bother with a Suzuki top box, they are rubbish.I took one off my DL650,the lid restraints both broke in a few weeks, they are pathetically weak, and the shape is all wrong for packing when touring.
