« on: January 07, 2019, 18:39:36 »
friend asked me a question today and didn't know the answer so said I would ask you 'orrible lot

if someone who has had a car licence for quite a few years but only had a full bike one for a few months collects 6 points in the car does it mean they will lose the bike licence still?

Oh yes, for sure.   If you think of it as just a 'licence' rather than a 'car licence' and a 'bike licence' it makes sense...

Not sure. Yes, I understand what Freddyfruitbat is saying, the driving licence is for both vehicles but if you've had the car licence for more than two years then put another category on it maybe not.
This is the last paragraph
"There isn’t another 2 year period if you pass a test for another category of vehicle, for example to drive a heavy goods vehicle."

edit........just noticed this on the same page....
Who’s covered by the rules
These rules apply to all new drivers who passed their first driving test in:

I'm pretty sure if the licence has been held over two years and then add a category there shouldn't be any problems if 6 points have been gathered.

Sorry, ignore me: I know nothing...
Misread the query as being simply about totting up of points under different licence categories, as opposed to specifically a newbie rider losing their licence after rapidly acquiring 6 points

I believe as stated above, it’s only within two years of passing your first test and then you are not disqualified just revert to a provisional licence. Can only be done via Court as well I believe.
