Suzuki Centre Stand
« on: September 07, 2018, 14:58:53 »
I wasn't going to pay £255 for a centre stand off Suzuki when I bought my bike a few months ago and managed to live without one (Though I was on the lookout) I couldn't resist one on Ebay from a nearly new bike that the owner had removed.

£100 OFF!! only took 30 mins to fit and half of that was the bloody springs

Why these bikes don't come with them as standard I will never know.
Ours is not to reason why, ours is but to do or die.

I'd like to know that as well. Never had a bike without one until the glee, but fortunately the previous owner had one fitted.

Yep, the lack of main stand on mine has always bugged me, but not enough to warrant buying the bloody expensive genuine article, or overcome the few bad reports I’ve read on the cheaper alternatives.
I was offered one for £150 when I bought my bike from the dealer, but didn’t have the spare cash at the time.
I get by with a paddock stand at home, and a bit of wood to prop up the off-side while away.
These days I do so few miles it’s not an issue, though if I found one at a ‘suitable price’..

.....because Suzuki hope they can extract another £255 from you! Same reason that very few bikes come with 12V sockets, heated grips etc. I bought a BMW R1200R some years ago - the standard seat was dreadful...but, no problem, BMW offered a 'comfort seat' as an optional extra - for about £400. Most bike manufacturers play the same game - basic essentials will soon have to be selected from the accessories list! "You want wheels with your bike, sir? That'll be an extra £1200, then".

I'm getting a bit hacked off too with bike manufacturers. I test rode a 1290  KTM last weekend. It's being marketed as a touring bike but the standard seat is comparable to a plank of wood. Of course they'll sell me a comfort seat. Who actually doesn't like being comfortable on a bike anyway? Does have a centre stand though.

I fitted a Cosmo centre-stand at the weekend. Easy lift and bike is rock steady on it. £115.00 all in.

Can vouch for the Cosmo as well. Solid centre stand. Took it across Europe with a loaded  bike. No issues at all.

How easy are the Comso centre stands to fit? I have the mechanical skills of a slug so need something simple!

Good morning all

A lift stick is another good alternative. I recently bought a V Strom 1000st and have used the stick for cleaning the chain etc. It's simple to use and fits nicely into your luggage to carry on trips. The Liftstick Louis retails at £29.99. The price includes a leather safety strap that compresses the front brake lever while you are working.
