wheel corrosion on 2014 V strom 1000

I leave my bike at my daughters house in the UK as I live abroard now I last rode the bike in late June when I went back early Sept the front tyre was flat pumped it up checked it for punctures and then went in with the soapy water and brush , the leak was between the rim and the tyre, I took it to the tyre fitters, they pulled the tyre and the rim was quite badly corroded, just wondered has anyone else had a similar problem, second set of tyres,16000 miles on the bike. :icon_exclaim:   :icon_exclaim:   :icon_exclaim:

It is a known problem with alu rims.
If the inside of the rim is scratched when putting the tyres on then they will quickly corrode.

Also most of the sealant like slime or puncturesafe will also corrode the rims.

Some tyres do not seat on the bead 100% either cause a leak or allows water to sit in the rim a d corrode.

Puncture sealant can cause havock to alloy rims, did the tyre fitters find any evidence of the slime/foam present in the rim, if not it may have been used in the past?

They have the same problem of rotting spokes on the yamaha 1200 tenere . I've had two new one,s & no matter what I tried they both rotted like hell , and NO ..I didn't ride them in the winer so cannot blame road salt ..just poorly made .

I have had the bike from new , the history is,  I never ride in winter in the UK so no salt has been near the bike and never put anything in the tyres except air.

Some soaps, like washing up liquid,contain salt, if not completely rinsed away they can get trapped and cause corosion.

bad luck there, romeo1 :GRR: . Maybe the cause was in the manufacturing or transporting of the wheel, or corrosion like wurzel says? It could also be by poor tyre changing - presumably its out of warranty, so just to be sure, I would never go back to that tyre changer again. Was it  bike shop/garage?
