Cosmo centre stand.
« on: August 29, 2018, 05:31:39 »
Good morning,

I recently purchased and fitted a Cosmo centre stand to my 2004 DL650. I am very happy with the stand but there is one niggle. I can't now operate the side stand with my left foot when sat on the bike. I have to lean down and operate the side stand with my left hand as the stand catches on part of the centre stand. Has anybody else had this problem and how did you overcome it?

Thank you,

Dicky

A photo might help for members to see possible cause I fitted mine a couple of weeks back no problem and I get my side stand down no problem have you got all the spacers in the correct position.

Thank you Metro Strommer,

I have just had another look at the setup. All spacers and nuts are correctly fitted. There is, however, free play at the pivot end of the side stand as if there might be a spacer or washer missing in the side stand assembly. Sadly I have no idea what the side stand assembly should look like where the side stand attaches to the frame.

Cheers,

Dicky

Do you have a side stand "foot" fitted?  They are known for catching, I have cut mine down slightly so it doesn't catch the centre stand now. :thumb:

Hi user650,

No I don't have a "foot" fitted. Just standard. Had a search on this site for side stand problems, particularly regarding the free play at the pivot end, and a few posters had confirmed that as "normal". I'll drop Cosmo a line once they are back off their hols and see if they have experience of my issue.

Cheers,

Dicky

Had a chat with the blokes at Cosmo who suggested it was a side stand problem. Took the side stand off and one of the pivoting lugs was bent out of shape through misuse. Straightened said lug and closed the gap between the lugs a tad and everything now works fine. Excellent after sales service from Cosmo. :fix:

Cheers,

I fitted one on my 2017 650 and have no fouling issues.
I do have a problem getting the side stand off to fit the sump guard though! God only knows what the nuts ate torqued to.
