The Pannier set up for the latest DL650
« on: February 28, 2018, 23:57:21 »
Looking for a bit of advice on the new DL650.

I have a 2015 model which is due to go back at the end of next month (PCP is up).
I'm weighing up whether to get a new model on another PCP or keep the one I have.
One factor will be the pannier set up as I have a set of Givi E41 keyless which are great and were expensive. I see on the new bike there seems to be an in built bracket for panniers. It's not clear though how much Suzuki panniers will cost to fit that (nothing I can find on the Suzuki site).

I see Givi do a kit to allow my E41's to be fitted but it's about £170 to buy.

Does anyone have any idea how much the Suzuki one will cost if I take a new bike?

Suppose as a linked question, I see they are giving away £700 of free accessories if I get one before the end of March. Would that be likely to cover a set up luggage with top box?

The new Suzuki luggage is easy to fit but very very small, I bought the complete set of Kappa K33 panniers and rack for about £320 but to use your old panniers you as you say you just need the new rack PL3112 or KL3112 about £140-£160. The £750 free accessories was available when I bought mine so I got the Tourer+ Pack as it had most of the things I would fit anyway  :thumb:

We have Givi panniers on our new 650  blood bike. Disappointed that they let water in. When we asked Givi they said they are not guaranteed waterproof unless they have their waterproof liners fitted. Less than ideal, and we won't be choosing them again.

We have drilled some drain holes as a workaround.

I looked at the new model at the NEC and as mentioned the official luggage seems very small. They couldn’t give me a price for it but were selling a GT variant with it all on which was about 1k extra.
I’m going to keep my 2015 bike and just resign myself to have to comply with abload regs because of the width!

I paid (a discounted) £500 to add a set of panniers to my new bike last month but the bloke said they should be nearer £900.....  well overpriced methinks...  They are not as well made as a Kawasaki set I had on a Versys and not even close to BMW quality but are an easy fit and look good. My main criticism is the flimsy locking mechanism and also the one on the same side as the exhaust is tiny!

A bit of bent metal and a couple of plastic boxes - ridiculous!

I'm surprised you believed the waterproof tag there. I have Givi 'waterproof' panniers on mine but ALWAYS pack inside dustbin/plastic bags inside........
So how's it going so far then?

Yep, you live and learn. I have hepco and becker panniers on my bike. Never let water in, I use them like suitcases when touring and they have been through some proper downpours. Only downside is that they are properly wide.

I look quick therefore I am.

Thanks for the replays all.

Think if I go for a new bike I'll pay the £160 for the rack that suits the panniers I have.
