I hate it when this happens - changing the brakelines & clutchline and just about finished when I look down and see this small red rubber ring lying on the garage floor. I've looked at everything I can think of but cannot work out where it came from - Does anyone have any idea where it could have come from???

p.s. I know it isn't from the fuel line connection to the tank

Was it wet? I think its origin was from something other than the bike if it was dry. I've also never seen a red O-ring on a V-Strom. Apply the brakes and clutch a few times and check for leaks.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

I don't think it is from the brake or clutch hydraulics,  brake-fluid compatible seals are made of stuff called EPDM rubber and I've never seen that in a colour other than black.

That's not like any seal I've seen to do with brakes or the tank. Most seals are black , don't think you have anything to worry about.

Just my thoughts but it looks like a water hose seal , could be wrong

don't know if it helps but only red o-rings I have come accross are usually made of silicon for chemical resistance.
(Green o-rings made of viton for high temperature if brain recalls correctly )

I use Viton (Green)  in hydraulic valves where there is dynamic wear or movement on the o-ring in service, normal black rubber ones as compression seals

That makes sense, I used the viton ones on vacuum systems (pressure I guess) which were also heated...so me brain was 1/2 way there  :bow-blue:
