Throttle Tamer on a 2015 DL1000
« on: November 12, 2017, 08:54:39 »
I found an old thread on this, but no other mentions on the site for these.

G2 Throttle Tamer.

I picked one of these up a few months ago for my 2015 DL1000 and WHAT A DIFFERENCE. Totally smooths out the throttle at low speeds and basically makes the big much more rideable.

If anyone else struggles with snatchy low ends (ooh er) or clutch finger when filtering, then seriously consider one of these. After fitting one, I did notice an excess slack in the cables which needs taking out but this is minor compared to the result.

Plus, I now have a spare throttle tube if anyone needs a basic replacement.

Regards,

If a shaped throttle reel helps over a round one, the rider could use some practice with fine throttle control, much like a pilot may need to get a better feel for the stick. The equipment is working fine but the person is overdoing the inputs. If taking slack out of the throttle cables helps, the rider is not feeling when the slack is taken up and movement will start having an effect on revs.

Some people never manage to develop a feel for the control. That used to mean the person shouldn't be riding or flying. Throttle tamers and throttle or fly by wire controls have allowed people to do things that they couldn't do properly in days gone by.

Or, another way of looking at it is, people are embracing new technology and using it to make tasks easier.

There is that too. Nice observation. I was just looking at it from the viewpoint of an old training instructor. I was the one who got assigned to help people who were having difficulty getting a feel for controls on some pretty low tech bikes. I wonder if some time on a video game would help people dealing with fine motor control.

My take on the situation is probably influenced by my wife whose fine motor control is practically non existent.

Or it could be the throttle is snatchy! I have been riding for 45 years on a multitude of different bikes and have never had a problem controlling one. My 2017 DL650 has a snatchy throttle. Whether it is fueling to pass Euro 4 or badly set up I don't know, but it takes a super sensitive approach to prevent a jerky reaction, which in turn means riding like a Granny.
