2015 model, coughing, spluttering, erattic idle
« on: October 10, 2017, 20:26:15 »
My 2015 1000 has suddenly started spluttering, backfiring, spitting, as though the mixture is weak. The tickover varies too. Beyond approx 3500 revs it performs OK. It stated on saturday after getting new tyres fitted. Anyone any ideas? Thanks.

Might be worth starting with the rubber boots from the airbox to throttle bodies - they can become dislodged.

have a look here

First of if you've just had new tyres fitted perhaps an abs sensor has been wrongly fitted or the ring on the wheel has got bent, more likely. Spin the wheels and check the abs toothed rings. They do more than just the abs. Front drives the speedo and rear the traction control.
Failing that check the exhaust flapper valve just dehind the end can.  Mine sticks and causes I misfire in my bike below 3000 rpm. Good luck

The ABS sensors don't affect fueling. Many Veeks issued in the first two years have fueling problems under 4000rpm and need their ECUs updated. They usually have the problems from day one rather than developing them later though.

They can on the Veek. I bent the rear abs ring slightly greasing up the wheel bearings and it ran like a pig, cutting in and out.  But the traction control light was flashing. Took the ring off and straighten it out and all was fine. If not that look at the exhaust valve, mine has stuck twice now.

I would think the flashing TC light would have been mentioned if it was happening. That's not about fueling though but constantly changing modes as TC kept engaging and disengaging.
