Spongy brake no longer
« on: July 31, 2017, 19:12:27 »
Finally found out how to fix my spongy front brake. Go on holiday in the car for two weeks (couldn't get kayaks in my top box) leaving the bike on its side stand with steering lock on. That's it! Can only imagine all the air I struggled to purge finally floated up to the highest point - the reservoir. Job done.

Just book them in a fortnight earlier and leave them to it. Like Christine, really, but with half the wheels.

Having suffered from brake lever getting very spongy and coming back to gloves I was resigned to have to get it looked at as not confident enough to play about with the brakes.
Saw your entry and thought worth a try as bike not being used for over a week as having grandchildren to stay during holidays.
I haven't tried it out riding yet but the lever is already a lot firmer so now interested to see what it is like on a ride.
Had centre stand from new so has always sat upright when parked up, maybe this is a valid short term fix for this common problem?

Upon riding my bike any improvement was marginal and not as good as the lever suggested it might be when pulled in the garage.
The brakes still perform OK but will have to try and improve them at some point.
