New Road Pilot 4 fitted
« on: August 16, 2017, 09:48:34 »
:sunny:Just changed my Anakee3 tyres for RP4s. The Anakees had done just shy of 9000 on my Veek and the back had squared off quit bad, front still had 3 k left but decided to change them both. Went for a ride of about 50 miles last night and they feel really good. The bike wants to turn in more with less effort from me and there is good feedback from the front. Heading over to Argyll this weekend for a run of around 500 miles so should be a good shake down. Weather to be crap so some wet weather riding hear we come, welcome to the UK summer ###.

:thumb: DLste, yes thanks, got the £30 back offer sorted, happy days. How long have you had them fitted to your bike?, interested in how long they last. The tread pattern is very busy compared to the Anakee3. This weekend should let me know how they are in the wet, to be pissing down all weekend in Argyll, 500 miles wet riding, thank you god for Gore-Tex. :ty:

Had them just over a week done 250 miles on them not bad at all, not used them in the wet so can't comment yet on wet use. :thumb:

Lowered foot pegs(combined with shocking rear shock) are still cornering speed limiting factor in the wet. Those tightening corners are dangerous   .

The PR4's are excellent in the wet. I only have the OE tyres to compare to but very impressed with performance.
Changed from Bridgestone at about 8000 miles and now on 12000 and can see PR4's are worn but still performing well.

Just back from my weekend tour around Argyll and I can report that my new tyres are great, much better than the Anakee3. Mixed weather from monsoon to sun. Feedback from the front in the rain was very good and the bike was planted in the corners. Only WTF moment was a set of twisties where the local council had kindly redone the surface with loose stone chips and forgot to tell anyone. Not nice when you are half way round a corner and the rest of the corner is covered in loose stones  :icon_exclaim: 498 miles and the RP4s get  :thumb:.

Being a road rider only, I never put on anything but Pilot Roads for the last ten years, from the original to the 4 series. I never had a single complaint.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Greywolf, I have to admit that I am now a convert to these tyres, they are good. Been using them now for 1000 miles and they blow the Anakee3s out the water. They are good in the dry ( when we get some ) and give me a lot of confidence in the rain ( and that's a lot ). really interesting how personal tyre choice can be, my mate hates these tyres and had them removed from his crossrunner after 700 miles as he felt that the front was going to slide everytime he went into a corner.

Been running PR3/4's on several bikes (including Explorer) and love them (3's were better ride imho but front wore badly).  Just fitted 4's on DL650 and don't like them - don't turn in as fast as the (worn) Tourance  - strange how things pan out - really liked the Tourance on DL but now getting difficult to get orginals and if you do they have been on the shelf a while - hence the change
Ho Hum  - only 300 miles in so I'm sure I''ll get used to it
