Coolant used to be simple. Sigh.
« on: August 21, 2017, 09:16:04 »
OK, the blue is the same as the green but not when they are different. The pink can be mixed with the red but not the blue except on Tuesdays. Yellow is the same as brown only don't mix it with the stuff that you buy on a Saturday. OAT can be used but silicate can't....except when you can. Question. I've'e got some pink Ethylene Glycol OAT coolant....which may or may not contain silicates. The stuff in the bike is green. If I just flush the system a couple of times and then put the pink stuff in will my engine explode, my girlfriend leave me, and my children want to buy BMW's?

As long as the system is flushed completely first, any coolant that meets the specifications for aluminium engines can be used. There are coolants that can mix with anything but there are also coolants that cannot be mixed without causing big problems.

Above all else, whether you flush first or not, never mix any colour of coolant with oats.

My Varadero is filled with Silkolene Mag-c.o.o.l
It's what get used in the workshop.

And its safe for magnesium alloy engine... not that the V-Strom has one anyway.
