7500 mile service and plug change.
« on: April 24, 2017, 14:19:23 »
Hiya all my 2016 Veek has just had its 7500 mile service. Cost was £392.
Now I found on here a revised service schedule which had the spark plugs checked at 7500 and replaced 15000. At the bike show live last year I spoke to the lads at ngk and they said a minimum service life of 20000 but usually you get 30/ 50 thousand out of a set of plugs. I've spoken to Suzuki uk and they say they should be changed at 7500. Is this the general consensus also what are they saying across Europe as to when they should be changed?
Cheers fellow strommers.

Mine is almost at 30.000 km's now and still on original plugs. I have no intention of changing them soon.

Iridium plugs are good for 50,000 miles. Even the old non-Iridium plugs were good for 20,000 miles. Suzuki's plug change interval is bollocks.

Is that the proper UK expression for stupidly wrong?
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

I change mine at 15000 miles

so the plugs last at least to 15000 they looked OK too

but as I was having the valves checked anyway

so I just changed them at the same time

If they insist on changing them, insist on having them back and keep them for spares.

Almost 400 quid for the minor service what a rip off!
I've 13k on mine, never done nothing apart from oil from the 500 miler.  Arran66 did any of your bikes valves need adjusted at 15k ? I'm hoping to ride mine till 30k without doing a thing.

porter

no adjustment was needed this time round

but I do advise you too get them checked

you can cause damage too the shims if there out

costly if you do... to change shims its cams out = £££££

I go really steady on mine I don't rev the nuts out of it

so depends on your riding style weather adjustment is necessary

also my air filter was really dirty this time round at 15000 miles

I changed this myself at 8000 miles.... so new filter too

Thanks. I've never done the air filter, I'll do it at 15k.
My last 3 bikes have not needed any shims at the first major service ( two triumphs and a yam fz1) so was hoping to save the money. My dealer wants 500 quid for the service! Outa warranty here so I'll use someone else r check myself.
I don't rev it much either, I'm two up all the time so hopefully she'll be OK. Thanks.
Ps it does get oil every 3k and oil filter every other change.

I think they set the stopwatch from the time you turn the key off. 100 pounds per hour while it cools down - bargain!

Mine at the 15000 mile service found all 4 exhaust valves tight.
Do it today as there may not be a tomorrow.
