Stupid mirrors question
« on: April 24, 2017, 21:33:20 »
Thinking about buying some cheap Aprilia style mirrors to see if that has any affect on the slight buffeting, but I'm ashamed to say I don't know how the old ones come off...

Do they just unscrew like, well, a screw?

Make sure you grab the bottommost part and it's lefty loosey.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.

Thanks both. Why are they like that then? I mean why not just have them as right hand screw and do without the coupler?

So these  mirrors I was looking at, they're right hand screw, so they just go in without the silver bit right?

I was thinking or using these too

I put some on but had to crank bars forward so that I could actually use the mirrors. Just done  400 mile trip with them on and I reckon the buffeting is reduced, but the mirrors are crap - like my old M900 shaking about! Can make out if it is a car/lorry/bike, but no detail at all. Not good for judging distances either. May
 swap back yet..

No problem with mine Paul. Enough adjustment on the mirrors and extenders for me plus no vibration at all! I think these give a better view than OEM mirrors.

I bought some Bike-It extenders for £8.99 from a Kwacker dealer, they look very similar to these
You have to be careful with clearance clarence as they come close to parts of the handgrip assemblies
But definitely do-able

And got some Aprilia look-a-like mirrors from out East somewhere (ebay?) for £11.99

A bit plastic looking but the glass is good and they work well and look good
And bloody good value as is everything that I have bought from out East
The only downside is the viewing area is smaller and can be a bit of pain to get right
I use my mirrors all the time

I have never had any rubbish from that part of the globe, all very good quality and well cheap
Most of the european stuff has been quite expensive and rusts within a year, (eg Givi and Motech)
Maybe I have been lucky with the former and unlucky with the latter

If you would like some photos let me know and I will try to find the mirrors for you if interested

As to the buffeting, never had a problem at all with this bike, but the Tiger 800XT had it in bucketloads so got a Givi Airflow (problem solved)

These are the mirrors I got but followed the link to the store and they don't seem to have items for sale now

Thanks everyone, I think I'll give them a go as it'll only be about £32 for mirrors and extenders.

Hopefully they'll work out, it's not that I'm getting a huge amount of buffering, it's more I like to fiddle and add bits to the bike  :thumb:

They look like the mirrors I bought last year. I didn't bother with any  extenders and I still have more view than standard mirrors.
