Intermittent power loss
« on: April 09, 2017, 21:28:41 »
 :fix:  :icon_exclaim:
Little help needed about my 2007 K7 650 done 20k miles,
twice now while riding along the bike has just lost power for around 5-10 seconds it doesn't cut out but while twisting throttle there is no response , then all of a sudden it just clears and rides normal again , both times it's happened at different speeds etc nothing consistent about it ,

Has new plugs and serviced about 300 miles ago any advice appreciated.

The start of a clogged high pressure filter? Could it be electrical, do the clocks dim or go out when the blip happens?

No mate just loses power for about 5 secs or so then revs clear , only done it twice but never know when it's going to happen again

I would start off by clarifying if this hesitation / loss of power started before or after the last service? Either way it sounds like an electrical fault to me. If it happens at a particular throttle position - maybe the TPS (throttle positioning sensor) needs a look at. Alternatively it may be a power plug that is high resistance on one of its connections. Similar to that of an indicator bulb connection that once more voltage / vibration / contacts cleaned, aka a better connection, everything works again. This type of fault is not easy to find when intermittent. Let us know your findings please.

same symptoms as you are having changed plugs now going to fit a new fuel pump strainer then if that doesn't fix it then the TPS sensor

I was at a loss until the kickstand switch was mentioned. That's a good possibility. Some people will accidentally push the stand down with their left foot while riding. I once shut down an old bike by hitting the kill switch with a tank bag.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

A friend of mine was running his GSX-R1000 for a 6 months with same problem. I looked at it and noticed straigh away that kick stand spring was very soft and wouldn't hold on the switch tight. New double spring and problem solved in 10 minutes.

I doubt it'll be a fuel pump/filter issue, much more likely to be a poor connection (battery or elsewhere), a brake being accidentally applied or something like kill/sidestand switch momentarilly cutting power.

Engine still runs when it happens just doesn't have any power , sidestand switch & kill switch are both fine

Any further progress in diagnosing the intermittent power loss fault or has it been resolved?
