It's a personal choice. You'll be trading a little torque for about 500rpm lower revs in 6th gear if you go to a 16 tooth front sprocket. If you feel the stock engine is buzzy, you may like the lower revs. One interesting thing is a 16T front will correct the optimistic speedometer. Glees take their speedo readings off the front sprocket shaft. The odometer will be about 4.5% low though. Stick with the stock 45 tooth rear. A one tooth difference on the rear isn't very noticeable rev wise but it will make the speedo read slightly high from actual.

Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

I fitted a 16 tooth front sprocket & tried it out for a while but have gone back  to the std 15 tooth and std gearing , I know some find it better & not as buzy but I felt it was a bit too high  for me and knocked the edge off its performance ..but as greywolf says its a personal choice.

Conversely, I went to a 16t front (gen Suzuki) and wouldn't go back to stock.
Motorway jaunts have the bike lower revving and feeling a bit less frantic, yet there's still plenty of get up and go in top cruising at 80. Obviously you get slightly reduced performance in each gear than you would with stock gearing but nothing that bothered me (as with anything, if you want more performance use more revs and a lower gear)

As GW say's, the speedo will read pretty accurately with 16t front, the odo will log a few % less mileage which also has a corresponding reduction of the displayed mpg - although actual mpg is pretty similar between the two gear ratios. Add about 4mpg to the dispalyed figure is reasonably accurate.

I generally go for DID X ring chains , along with genuine front and 'any brand' steel rear sprocket, which begs the question why you want to go for a less durable alloy rear?
An oe kit is the easy option, aftermarket kit the cheaper, easy option. A gen sprocket, did chain + whatever rear probably the expensive option to be honest, I'm not too impressed with the oe chain used by Suzuki.
