anakee 3 speed rating
« on: March 29, 2017, 16:19:33 »
hi blokes , just looking at tyres anakee3  150/70/17 69h  would this be OK on a v2 ???
the reason I ask is that the 69h speed rating is 130mph and 325kgs is that OK as I am not going to go 130mph on the v2
the shitty bridgestone is a v rating 149mph and there's no way I will be doing that on the bridgestones
I am 90% sure it will be OK
has anybody fitted a 69h and if so thoughts please or shall I just get the pilot road 4 which I was very happy with in the past ,just want to try something a bit different
cheers jason

Not sure about the tyres your on about as I've never used them !!  ( sorry can't help on them ) :dl_hyperhysteria:
I've been using shitty A40 (bridgestones) for 3 years now and they seem to be pretty good tyres . I'm averaging over 11 k a set , so not bad for shit tyres , perhaps if I use good tyres I will never need to change my tyres ever again .  :thumb:
I stand tall,  but I am short
I shout loud, but I am quiet
I ride a DL1000 and Proud.

I have Anakee 3s on now and after 3,000 kms they seem to be good tyres at highish corner speeds. I rarely go above a genuine 120kph and if I do it's only briefly.
Wear is yet an unknown quantity.
I have great regard for the OE Bridgestones under all conditions. They did everything well, cornered to the edges and I got 17,500 kms from a set - significantly better than my follow up TKC70s under exactly the same conditions and trips.
Pity I can't find them anymore

I believe you should always fit tyres with a load and speed rating equal to or higher than that recommended by the manufacturer, the fact that you may not fully load the bike or take it flat out is largely irrelevant as the bike has the capability to do it (ie, the tyres shouldn't be the weakest link).

To answer the question directly.
All 650cc V-stroms can use H rated as the top speed is 125mph and H rated gives you 5mph on top.
All 1000cc V-Stroms require V rated tyres and the top speed is 130mph and V rated is higher than that.
In the event of an accident where the tyres have nothing to do with the incident an insurer could reject the claim as the bike is using a parts not suitable for the bike.

That said I've fitted Heidenau K60 Scouts (T rated) to my Varadero 1000 that requires V rated tyres.
I accepted the risk and rode on happy, but I'm not telling you it's OK.

I had a similar problem with s tiger800. They have a funny sized front tyre 100/90-17 v69 fitted as oe but when folk replace the tyres they all use the 110/80-17's. I did that to but hated the way the tiger steered then.  The only 100/90 was an annkee 3 in h69 rating.  Worked fine and I'd say the tiger800 was as quick as the Veek though lighter. I've tried a few times to get my Veek to 130mph but it always runs out of puff r road about 125!
All that said I'd still buy the correct rated tyre unless the other was a bargain.

I did once get the Wee to 130 as shown on the Sat Nav when I'd removed the secondary butterflies.
And that was with H rated anakee 2's.
Head shake starts around 110, then buy 120 everything is smooth again.
It was a long runway officer.

yes the anakee 3 £67 and if I buy a front from openo about £150 for a pair seems good to me

On a Sports bike for sure I do match speed ratings. On the slow Strom I don't see any problems with the H tyre on the Vee. As long as the tread/carcass was legal I don't see a problem with insurance but would think that would be down to individual assessor/and or Insurance Company. I have never even hit 120mph on the Vee and I cruise well within the parameters of the H around 65-85mph.

Seen this from an enquiry:

Dear X,

With regards to the tyres the speed
rating would not affect the policy and
is not classed as a modification.

If the size of the tyre is different it
is classed as a modification."
