Suggestions for pillion seat bag?
« on: January 15, 2017, 13:34:13 »
Doing some online window shopping (Windows shopping?) at the moment cos I want a decent bag to sit on the seat behind me (not on the luggage rack as I already have a topbox) ready for when the weather gets a bit better.  Needs to be waterproof and functional; but wouldn't mind it being a little bit stylish (since as a born-again biker I'm afraid this time round I'm not likely to be camping, using an old canvas bag wrapped in a bin liner!)

If I enjoy touring as much as I hope I'll probably be after hard panniers for longer trips, but for now a seat bag will suffice.

Any good recommendations please?

I use a bright yellow drybag from Aldi, it cost £10 iirc, and it's totally waterproof and it straps nicely to my seat, using Hondaman clone eyelets at the side of the seat.

Depending on size & what you want it for, check out Ortleib Rack Pack & ewetsuits for LOMO gear which is great quality at a sensible price.

I find top/lengthways opening bags much more convenient than end opening ones.

My Ogio tail pack.....

Pushed back onto the carrier a bit, but would fit neatly on the pillion seat....

Got myself a Kriega US-30 (30L) drypack the other day. Not cheap, but fantastic.

Strong and water resistant outer, washable white waterproof drybag inner, comes with all the fitting kit, has removable shoulder and waist straps, is modular so you can attach other drypacks to it (up to 70L), and there's an optional tankbag adapter.

This company seems to do a nice range of bags similar to the Ortlieb Panniers.

@roganjoshing Thanks for that link. Bought (£20 off at the mo) one this week and used it for the first time today. It's really secure on the bike and just the right size to hold enough gear without getting in the way. Didn't rain today but it looks very well made and the welded seams look good.

Thanks a lot, people. Quite liking the look of the Oxford Aqua T I must say.

Nothing against the Aldi bag at all:

...but the trouble with any Aldi stuff (of which I have plenty at home - I'm even typing on a Medion PC from Aldi! - is that stock is very short-term, and just comes and goes.

The Aldi bags are great vfm. Tough as old boots, used mine to stuff my wetsuits in after surfing, they're waterproof that's fer sure.
I've used an Oxford bag T50 as an off-shore bag, survived being throw around a helideck without a blemish. They can be had for free if you go on greatmagazines.com and subscribe to Bike magazine (£43/year).

Last year I bought this from Amazon
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Highlander-Cargo-100-Holdall-Black/dp/B004BU14C8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1486899055&sr=8-1&keywords=Highlander+Cargo+100+Holdall+-+Black

What a brilliant bag it is too, held my tent and sleeping bag, and some. I took precautions with regards to plastic bags, but even when it chucked it down in Germany on the way home from Glemseck, the bag stayed waterproof. It really is a great well made and sturdy bag, and at that price, why pay through the nose for it, after all it's just a bag.

MCN are giving away a free Oford Aqua with every subscription at the moment. The cheapest subscription is around £40 so you'll effectively be getting the bag for the cheapest price with a free subscription to motorcycle news. Very handy.

Actually the cheapest subscription is £80 - the minimum term is 12 months, and you were looking at the 6-monthly direct debit option.  Still not a bad deal for anyone who wants that bag, but not quite such a no-brainer!

Hi, have a look in Motorcycle news this issue. If you subscribe for a year they are giving away a 50 Lt Oxford water proof bag.  I did this , I buy MCN anyway,  and the bag is perfect. It did take a while to arrive though.

Hi I brought a 70 lit Oxford roll bag as I like to camp in style and I manage to get loads of gear in it , this is a fantastic bag , easy to fit and 100% waterproof , I can highly recommend this product .  :thumb:
