Glee Gear Position Indicator has a mind of its own
« on: October 07, 2016, 11:05:47 »
The gear position indicator on my Glee has a bit of a mind of its own - sometimes it doesn't show the correct gear and, when this happens, it will often change itself to the correct gear eventually without me changing gear.

Any ideas what the issue could be and how I might fix it?

Thanks,

Andy

If it works the same as the big pie gpi then it is likely to be a duff signal. Either a dirty connector in the circuit or the gear position sensor is becoming faulty.

Had the same problem . The fix was easy . Down by the front cog you will see the gear thingy . Sorry don't know what it's called  . It's held on with two hex bolts all I did was take it of , squirt with W D 40 put it back on and Hello presto it all works fine .

This GPI seemed to behave itself for a while after this initial post (and the arrival of a little one meaning I no have no free time!). However, it has now come back with a vengeance. I had a look yesterday for the hex bolts that pawl was mentioning, but wasn't sure which ones he was referring to.

Can someone show work out what I need to do in the below image?

Thanks

Andy

Remove the 3 bolts  holding the black plastic cover on, under there you will see the front sprocket, in front of that there are two hex bolts holding on a small sensor take it off and give everything a good clean with WD40 and clean the old gummed up oil and muck out, see if that helps.

The problem may also be in the wire connector from the GP switch that can be found just inside the left side of the frame. There is another connection at the display itself but that is less likely to be a problem than the switch or the connector.

I took the cover off as suggested and it was filthy behind there! I assumed that the sensor in question is almost-oval shaped bit near the middle of this image. After wiping it down, I discovered that it was originally white! The left bolt came out without issue, but I was not able to even loosen the right-hand bolt - the hex-key kept slipping in the head :( I gave it a good squirt of GT-85 and hope to have another go at a later date.

I'm not seeing a picture. Sometimes a Torx bit can be hammered into a stripped hex hole to get a good bite.
