What replacement battery?
« on: January 23, 2017, 11:15:08 »
Suppose I need a new battery for my K9A Wee. Should I get genuine Suzuki replacement from a dealer or go for something else and if so what?
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

Yuasa would be my first choice.
My 2001 Transalp with 80k had it's original factory Yuasa battery when I sold the bike last year & it would start the bike fine if stood a month in winter.

Yuasa... I've seen many not very old batteries come in to be replaced. But the only Yuasa ones are quite old.

There is a reason Honda and Suzuki supply them for the new bikes.

I vote for Yuasa too, on this subject, where can I get longer battery bolts? or what kind of bolt should be used?

iirc they are m6 bolts.
As long as you get a good contact with the terminals on the battery the type doesn't matter too much, but I'd avoid aluminium bolts.

If you are finding that you are running out of room for accessories to be connected have a look at motobatt they have 4 terminals and a slightly larger capacity.
Life is short - You have to enjoy it on a Wee-Strom!

I purchased Tayna battery recently, they advertise a great cranking amps and it was delivered next day.The voltage when the battery was unpacked was 13.0v.and it really"whizzes"the engine over when starting.Leave it a couple of weeks and it still shows 13.1v.So far so good.

I've recently bought a lithium battery for my Vee.
It certainly does whizz the starter motor with a lot more oomph. The battery weighs almost nothing.

Most batteries that don't last more than 1 or 2 years probably weren't charged up properly before the 1st use.

EVEN IF the instructions say "Use straight away" or "No need to charge" YOU DO need to trickle charge the battery for at least 12 hours prior to fitting it to your bike (Do not put it on high charge for 12 hours!!!)
This is to condition the battery - it will make the difference between a battery lasting 2 years to lasting 5 years! I got this information from a radio technician who uses a lot of bike style batteries and he did his own tests, his results were for his own use and not for any battery company. He knows a lot more than me and for once I paid attention  :bow-blue:
