Chain Oiler... MkIIII. and it works!
« on: March 05, 2017, 13:31:01 »
I have finally perfected my home made chain oiler. Admittedly I had to buy something (and not just use what was floating around in the house, skips, or in the rubbish) but £2.89 ain't a bad layout and it kept me out of trouble for a while. It actually works a treat!

Reservoir is a brake fluid reservoir off Ebay. For the few drips I use it should last a few miles. And yes Wurzel, you got it in one...well two if you count the auto correct.

I went to the trouble of making a proper plate for the primer bulb on mine.

You know....... for if you ever feel like upgrading from a cable tie.

I haven't taken the top off to have a look at how much I have used yet to be honest. I don't drench the chain, just one squeeze every now and again. It's really only for when I do my extended tours of 3000 miles or more. When I am just pottering about I tend to just clean and lube the chain as normal. Won't be making a special plate for it, minimal outlay, minimal effort type of a bloke I am....or a tight lazy bugger in other words!  :)

I've also got a Loobman fitted and just press the button for a few seconds every time I fill the tank. Here's a pic showing how my reservoir is strapped to my handlebars and the oil feed goes down through the hollow headstock tube.

I suspect there are 101 chain oilers out there....but there's nowt like faffing on, pottering about, and making one of your own for a couple of quid.  :)
