Engine mount thrust adjuster lock nuts loose
« on: February 15, 2017, 21:27:07 »
I've had my K5 650 for 12 years now and decided to plan for an engine out repair job sometime in the far future by making 2 of the peg sockets needed to undo the engine mount thrust adjuster lock nuts. Rather  surprised when starting to measure the nut's dimensions that both the top and bottom adjuster nuts were completely loose, not even finger tight let alone tightened to the 32.5 ft/lb value shown in the manual.

The engine mount bolts are still tight but after making the peg sockets I will reset the engine mount thrust adjusters to make sure they are tightened to spec as loose engine mounts may be the cause of a slight vibration at some rev/load combinations.

If you do remember and have time, please take pix and post them. It may be of help to other members, in how to check for / attempt to resolve vibration, like you described.

Sorry but the job is all done and locked away with the only photo from the exercise a shot of my unlovely, but effective, peg tools for the lock nuts.

One thing to note is the thrusters only have small nut flats and to engage them you need a 19mm 6 point socket for the bottom one, while the top one needs a 32mm 6 point socket.  A 12 point socket will not work.
