Flashing LED spotlights - no 'U2' chip
« on: April 07, 2017, 18:04:21 »
I bought some replacement LED spotlights as one of mine stopped working ('same' item from the same seller). Imagine my surprise when I opened it up to remove the 'U2' chip to disable the flashing/strobe mode only to discover there wasn't one... anyone more electronically minded have any suggestions which chip may disable the flashing?

Thanks in advance

Edit: I might need to take a better picture...

I see Diodes, Resistors and a Capacitor and possibly only one Chip?

That tiny chip is the only one there, you could just snip the pins on one side and see what happens. If it disables the light They can then be re-soldered.

Well removing the 'U1' chip didn't work... neither does the light  :fix:

I may look to resolder the U1 at some point

Well, after buggering up the attempted resoldering of the U2 chip (my Lidl soldering iron died & my spare is crap) I decided to make my own. I probably should have done this in the first place rather than buying replacements.

I took some spare LEDs that I'd used to make my DRLs (I think they cost £4 for 10), drilled a hole in the internal case, reassembled, soldered & job's a good 'one.

Only thing is the light is yellowish rather than blue... must try to get some better LEDs at some point...

That's exactly what I've had to do with one of mine, water got in and the light stopped working, so out with the drill and 10Min's later all fitted back and working. I will do the other one eventually  :thumb:

The lens fell off after a few miles so ended up super glueing the lens on, a few thousand miles later all OK.
