Removing the stock Exhaust from an 08 DL650
« on: December 16, 2016, 13:20:19 »
I have set about removing my Exhaust, all fixings removed and the front Header removed. Do I need to unbolt the rear header or will enough wiggling see the thing removed?

If it's anything like the glee, the rear header stays in place (thankfully, as the allen bolts look a pig to get to...)  so just the down pipe to exhaust clamp & the whole lot will wiggle downwards with a bit of jiggling of the front header.

Even though your ride is a 650, have a look at http://www.stromtrooper.com/DL1000-2002-2012/157281-delkevic-exhaust-install-DL1000.html. Good write-up with a few informative pix on the removal, etc.

Thanks, the beast gave way yesterday after some precision wiggling and swearing.

I can't read Stromtrooper, the ads are too distracting  :dl_hyperhysteria:

He first time I took the exhaust off my wee, I swapped the bolts from the front clamp to the rear.
As I could get a long socket extention to the rear clamp but using an alan key was a tw##. So alan key at the front.

This paid off when the front gasket gave up and I could use a mole grips on the front and a socket on the rear to move the very rusted bolts.

Or replace the pair with stainless.
