Vin number check failed!
« on: December 07, 2016, 20:16:42 »
Hi all,

I was randomly browsing the Suzuki GB website and came across their VIN check facility. I decided to punch in the VIN of my Glee AL6, bought as a brand new pre reg in October and there you go... red warning saying that the VIN could not be found and that this could mean that my bike is not an official UK import

The small print states that pre reg bikes might not show up in their database, anyone ever had he same issue? Do you know if there is a way to check the VIN of pre regs?

Cheers!

Check what your V5 says - if the special notes section at the bottom of the front page says it was declared new at first registration then it's kosher as far as I know: the Suzuki website refused to accept my AL2 for a service plan quote the whole time I owned it, so I wouldn't worry.

Just checked the V5, new at first registration is there... I was more concerned about it being some shady non UK import as the warranty wouldn't be valid in hat case and sometimes such imports come restricted I heard

My AL5 bought new Dec '15 from main Suzuki dealer didn't appear either. I went back to dealer and they contacted Suzuki UK who confirmed that it was an official import by Suzuki UK but had originally been intended for another market. I believe France as one of the warning stickers is in French. Apparently they were selling well and when Suzuki UK tried to restock they were in short supply and this other country had an excess of unsold bikes.
Took several months to sort out but the department at Suzuki that add the new UK bikes to the computer should have added it and hadn't.
Was also told when the bike was UKified the warning stickers should have all been changed to English ones and they offered to do so but didn't bother.

I've just messaged Suzuki GB about it via the contact form on the website, I suspect that it is a situation similar to yours mrp192... I bought it from an official Suzuki dealer in North London and they have very good reviews so I doubt that they would sell no UK imports. Let's see what they say

No user650 I'm using Google Chrome and I've also tried with Safari, I'm a Mac user you see... The page does work, it just can't find my VIN hence the message advising me to contact my dealer as the bike might be a non official UK import.

I've had another problem with Suzuki gb...I bought a new L6 in october this year and still have not received my pack from Suzuki that contains the bikes warranty card . I mentioned this to my dealer while it was in for its 600ml service , they rang Suzuki gb who said they are having a problem with them at the moment but not to worry , that was over a month ago ?

PZ what make you think they don't cover the warranty on imported bikes?

It's 2 years like all of them.
Take your battery terminal off and see if your speedo defaults back to KMH... check your headlight beam pattern and see if it's a flat beam pattern...... it's the same bike. Not some "shady import" as years ago...

Have a look at https://www.Suzuki-gb.co.uk/ccr/customer-services-frequently-asked-questions/ under the warranty section.

Thanks for the replies everyone, Suzuki GB got back to me today stating that the bike is indeed an official UK import and that their VIN database isn't up to date on the website... false alarm then!

it was an official import by Suzuki UK but had originally been intended for another market. I believe France as one of the warning stickers is in French.

...Interesting.....my pre-reg Gladius's stickers were all in German, as was the owner's handbook! The bike was an official UK model, brand new but obtained from central stock held by Suzuki in Germany. All sorted eventually and no issues regarding warranty. The cost saving made it worth the hassle.
