Finance isn't a problem. Just get the seller to call them while you are there, you then pay them directly and any left over from agreed price goes to the seller. Never leave with the bike and trust the seller to do it later, chances are they might not and you could lose the bike and money.

That'd work, just pointing out that the finance company actually own it. As you say, never leave it to the vendor to settle. Make sure it's cleared, and they know about it, and you should be OK.

Yep the outstanding finance is a big problem. As Bigpie suggests, this can be sorted out directly and you would have to confirm this arrangement with the seller before you even think about going to look at it, bearing in mind that there may also be an "Early repayment fee" on top of the outstanding balance. I would also want to know in advance just how much finance is outstanding - my guess is it will be roughly the asking price - and a good read of the finance agreement just to make sure there aren't any hidden fees etc which may scupper the deal.

On top of that, the bike is "Showing just 690 miles" WTF, has he done just 690 miles or 16690 and changed the odo...the wording smacks of dealerspeak, a pet hate.

Put a pal onto this advert this morning.

The finance is the big issue, but as has already been pointed out, it can be worked round with direct communication with the finance company at the point of potential sale.

The mileage isn't really an issue either- in the same area that that bike is for sale (Aberdeen / Aberdeenshire) are 2 x 2015 sports bikes, each showing less than 1800 miles. The oil down turn is seeing many, many expensive toys being put up for sale up this end of the island. The low mileages are cos the owners are rarely home, and when they are, they have "domestic chores" to complete before they can go out and play on their toys (I know quite a few in that situation  :haha:)

Just my mutterings.

It's up in Thurso - pointed my pal at that one the other week. His lack of mobility - shattered ankle & broke leg post bid "OFF" stopping him getting out and about to check out the bikes. doesn't stop him browsing through tinternet sites for potential buys though  :lala:

The seller wants £500 deposit, then he'll sort the finance - YEH, RIGHT

A friend of mine had similar dealings. He was looking for a T5 camper. There are lots that appear cheap but all hundreds of miles away with little mileage compared to most similar year vans.  Some would say too good to be true etc. He contacted a few of the sellers to view and all said very similar things. They are away until xxx date but if you where to pay a deposit if £xxx it would secure the van until they return to complete the deal.  None would provide a mobile number to speak direct. He cut the images from some of the adverts and google searched them. Most pictures had been re cycled from genuine ads or ads that had been previously marked as scams.
I would stay well clear and as the saying goes if its seems to good to be true.....

I reckon given the growing amount of bikes on hp, pcp etc. honest purchasers not doing their homework/checking will get caught out and possibly lose their bike as a consequence.

It's unusual for anyone to mention outstanding finance in an advert so I guess that bit is true.
If it was a truly dodgy bike then you wouldn't mention anything that would put someone off before even looking.
If you are sensible enough not to rush into a deal and speak to the seller without antagonising him about the finance then it could be a good buy. As long as you go through all the procedures for settling the finance it won't be a problem.

Talking to a friend about bikes etc, he admitted that he only did 15 miles on his last year. To the MOT and back! This is a bloke that used to be riding everyday but now he's thinking of selling. Just goes to show how these low mileage bikes come up for sale every now and then.
