Orwell Motorcycles, Ipswich - good service.
« on: September 14, 2016, 21:20:04 »
I got my Glee from Orwell's in January and at the time had them add the adhesive frame protectors to the frame rails above the pegs.
In the heat of the last couple of weeks these have started to come unstuck and as soon as I complained to Orwells they ordered new ones and arranged to have them fitted today.
Very helpful and friendly service department and when I got home to find that one of the rubber pads that pushes in to the swing arm pivot
had gone missing, having been refitted in front of me just before I left, they immediately agreed to order one and send it out to me First Class.
First Class service.

I ordered some frame protectors from Two Wheel Centre (Mansfield) around Christmas along with some side panel protectors. Unfortunately by March the frame protectors started to peel off. I asked TWC if they were covered by warranty and they said they'd ask Suzuki. Unfortunately I haven't heard back despite periodic prompts...

Sounds like you got a good dealer there  :thumb:

Yes Rusty Nuts was the left hand side. Is that usual as been fine up to now, 5600 miles?
VStrom 650 I was told that if genuine Suzuki accessories were fitted by their technicians then they are covered by the bikes warranty.
They are very good, two recently sold Glees in the showroom waiting collection. A black 66 plate and orange/ copper coloured 12 or 13 plate that looked new.

The L.H. one is virtually always the culprit. Left foot,  changing up and down, moves a lot more than right foot. Greywolf instigated the idea of silicone sealer on the ribs where they push into the hole. I did this.. on my second one!

I was told it's true if you buy them at time of the bike. Suzuki say they're covered by a 12 month warranty if bought separate, however said I need to go to a dealership to inspect for Suzuki to consider a claim. Unfortunately I'd already removed them from the bike as salt and road chap was stuck behind them. I do have a photo of them lifting at the time,  and the panel protectors being fine but not sure if they'd accept that or if I can be bothered to ride 30+mins to the nearest dealership.

I passed Orwell's when I was at the mother-in-law's last year. Remember thinking they always get good reviews on here. Unfortunately the wife didn't think I had any reason to go in and look at the new bikes  :bawl:

I originally had sealant on mine but when I took them off to fit the frame protector,  the nuts behind had surface oxidisation. Didn't bother resealing as figured it was trapping moisture in.

Thanks to you both. Might try sealing the new one in but leaving a gap at the bottom to allow moisture to escape.

Does the silicone sealer have to be an automotive specific one because of the proximity to the heat from the engine? Part has just arrived so even further impressed with Orwell's aftersales service.

I just used bathroom type silicone sealant as it's what I had in. No issues with it being close to the engine/heat

External silicone sealant would also do

Thanks I'll get some. Did you put it on the frame and press the rubber in to it or put it on the rubber and then press it into the frame?
Don't know if it matters but never used the stuff in this way before.

I put a small amount on the back of the the rubber on the circle. Don't put loads on or you'll never get it off if you need to (and it makes a mess).

Used a small amount of the sealant to the ribs and left for 24hrs to dry. Thursday had a whole days riding including 1 1/2 hours in very heavy rain and both still there so thanks for the advice.
