4 pot calipers...?
« on: September 12, 2016, 20:32:30 »
My front brakes are about shot on my 1000 K8. Brake pad pins seized (cannot get them to shift even 1mm), pistons looking pretty rusty etc. going to cost me some dough on repair kits.
Having only just bought the bike I was a little surprised at seeing 2 pot calipers, I sort of assumed it would have 4... I've read some threads on GSXR brakes etc but has anyone found any 4 pot calipers that fit straight on without adaptor plates?

No. Adapters are required.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

There are no calipers out there that fit without an adaptor .

These calipers are from a hornet 900 and the hangers are from svracing in The USA, these hangers also fit 954/929/918/900 fireblade/ 1000 firestorm and maybe others. They also make hangers that fit a range of Suzuki calipers like early GSXR's /650 bandit type.

Well worth the upgrade especially if you upgrade to a radial mastercylinder.

That seems to be the way to go.
Oh well, I'd better part with some money (again)

Looking at the cosmo accessories website they list a set of caliper adaptors for a DL1000 but the description says DL650 - I emailed the company to verify which they were and he said he was 99.99% sure they fit the DL1000

Does anyone know if DL650 brakes fit the DL1000?

As far as I know the 650 and the 1000 calipers are interchangeable.

The nissin Honda 954/929 fireblade calipers are best although the ones that I have (hornet 900) are more than capable of doing the job .

Tried soaking the pins in WD40, then used a heat gun?

As for the calipers above, the CBR600/Hornet/CBR900 gold calipers are all the same.  Only a very slight difference from the older black calipers.

I use them on my race bike, and the amount of power they give is fantastic.  Add on a set of steel discs and carbon pads and they give great braking power (not that you want either of the latter as they need warming up before they perform well).

Yeah, tried that. Went fairly gentle with the heat and no difference so I used a lot more heat and it still didn't work. Then I thought "Why am I messing around with these crappy 2 pot calipers anyway?"
