White connector
« on: September 12, 2016, 16:51:34 »
Does anybody know what the white connector behind the left rear side panel is for. It is taped to the wire ring harness and has a blanking plug plunged into it.

If you means the white one pictured, it's the dealer mode connector. http://www.vstrom.info/Smf/index.php/topic,7061.0.html

It does not look like that it is a two pin connector with a red and black wire going to it

Is one pin a solid red wire and the other a solid black wire with neither having a different colour stripe? That sounds like somebody added a connector rather than an OEM piece.

A photo would help identify it.
Could even be a battery charging plug.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

That is a typical use for a connector configured like that. See if the pin with the black wire is earth and the pin with the red wire is live even with the ignition off. If so, the connector is wired to the battery. If you can find a small red wire going to the battery +, make sure it is fused as an unfused live wire traveling through the frame is a bad idea.

Are you sure that's red, it looks more orange and black with white stripe.

Yes. The wires are orange and black/white. The orange wire goes to the ABS control unit so the connector is the ABS mode select coupler. It is similar in use to the dealer mode select coupler that is used to check fuel injection fault codes but the ABS mode select coupler is used to check codes for faults in the ABS electrical system.
